Within the numismatic world it is already becoming a tradition that the Austrian Mint, Münzen Österreich, issues a coin to announce the arrival of Easter, this year also serves to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the arrival of the famous company Porcelain from Augarten (Porzellanmanufaktur Augarten) to Vienna.

One coin, two special occasions. Celebrating both Holy Week and the 300th anniversary of porcelain making in Vienna, the Easter Bunny coin represents a very special rabbit. Designed by ceramist and sculptor Michael Powolny (1871-1954) around 1930, it is one of the most charming pieces ever produced by the famous Augarten Porcelain in Vienna.

The manufacture of porcelain in Vienna was established in 1718 by Claudio Inocencio du Paquier after the Dutchman completed a risky mission to bring the secret of how to make porcelain from Meissen to Vienna. From the beginning, the designs of the factory were ahead of their time. During the 1920s, the creative contribution of artists such as Michael Powolny, co-founder of Wiener Keramik, played an important role in the worldwide fame he achieved, including Powolny himself designed Austrian coins, including a 5-shilling coin.

The obverse of the coin of nine sides, shows the coats of arms of the nine federal provinces of Austria, its face value, 5 euros, in the center, and in the outline the name of the country.

This coin with facial of 5 euros, like all those that Austria issues in this value, can be purchased in two versions, the copper at face value and the silver, presented in the portfolio that you see below, at a price of 18, € 60 in the online shop of the Austrian mint.
