The fifth coin of the series "Fauna in cultural monuments of Ukraine" dedicated to the Serpent, was issued last May 25 by the Bank of Ukraine. This piece and all of the series have facials of 5 hryven and are minted in 925 silver of purity.

On the obverse of this piece, and all of the series, is represented in gold a monument, piece or historical engraving dedicated to the animal in question, always located or discovered in Ukraine. On the reverse we see a characteristic image of the animal.

This coin commemorates the serpent and its representations in the cultural monuments in different occasions. The tribes and peoples who inhabited Ukrainian lands for thousands of years have created countless works of art and cultural monuments of incalculable value in different periods of history. The image of the serpent plays a prominent role in the ornaments of trypillian ceramics. In the Trypillian culture, snakes were seen as benevolent and protective beings.

The coin on its obverse shows a golden serpent-shaped ring (second-third century AD) found in the ancient city of Tyras (present-day city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi), to the right a double-sided medallion used For the neck (12th century AD). Such medallions were very popular in the ancient Rus of Kiev, being used as protective amulets.

The reverse shows the image of a snake, in the context of a trypillian pottery in which another snake is represented.
