O nouă monedă comemorativă ucraineană - 28.02.2016

The Bank of Ukraine issued last February 24 a coin of 5 Hryven dedicated to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine.Founded in 1866 as a public library, it is one of the largest and oldest state. 



On the reverse, shown as a backdrop the outline of the dome of the parliament building and the building itself which houses the National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine, under this registration include: National Parliament / Library Ukraine / 150 YEARS.

Ukraine / 5 Hryven and logo of the Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine, the year of issue, 2016 and an image of the room: on the obverse, in the top of the State Emblem of Ukraine, inscriptions shown reading library.

National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine



The National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine is one of the national libraries of Ukraine, and one of the largest libraries in the country. It was inaugurated in 1866 as the public library of the city of Kiev.


The main building of the library is on the European Square in downtown Kiev, was built in 1911, designed by architects A. Z. Kliave and Krivosheyev.

During its 150 years of existence the library grew to more than 4 million items in its collection (which started as a private collection), also it was gathered a large collection of early prints, and rare and valuable books.

During World War II, the library was severely damaged and more than 50,000 publications were taken from there. The library building was burned by Nazi troops retreating in November 1943, during one night of flames, the library lost more than 300,000 copies.
