Archaeological site Huarautambo

Huarautambo is a settlement of the Inca empire whose most important function was to serve as a dairy farm and sanctuary. It is located 7 km from Yanahuanca in Pasco, opposite the village of Astobamba, where there are pre-Inca remains. Part of Qhapaq-nan and is one of the most elegant places of rest. It is at the center of the road between Cuzco and Cajamarca, in the middle range, at 3600 m altitude.

The sanctuary Huarautambo Tambo was built between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. It is separated from Astobamba by a river that can be crossed by a beautiful Inca bridge, which has very showy waterfalls that pass through Cuzco imperial style enclosures.

This archaeological site is unique in the Tawantinsuyo, and reflects a vision clearly linked to the worship of water. In the central building there is a beautiful fountain with four strands fed from a spring in the heights. Huarautambo amazed not only for being a dairy farm on the road but for the spectacular display of its water sources, which only has contemporary comparison with the Sanctuary of Tipon in Cusco and the Huaca of Caranquis in northern Ecuador.
