MERMAIDS – TWIN & SINGLE TAILED.

It’s good to do a guest blog on Adrian’s site. Blogging is a good way to spread the word and disseminate EVEHD (‘Engaging Volunteers in European Heritage Discovery’) – our EU supported Culture 2007-2013 project.

The twin-tailed mermaid is a very ancient symbol - Starbucks adopted it because they wanted something exotic and linked to the sea - they were originally based on the waterfront in Seattle.... this collage shows just how old the symbol is....centre picture has Antonia Manuela and Lewis Couves enjoying a Starbucks coffee with the mermaid on a coffee bag. Other picture is in fantastic Ephesus in Turkey - this Medusa with twin acanthus leaf tails is a very early Roman form of the twin tailed mermaid. I asked Sotia Adamidou and Lizz Roe to 'make like medusan mermaids' in a loud Americanesque drawl in a special British celebration of the abundance of our colonial cousins at that wonderful venue.

Be good to hear some mermaid – twin or single-tailed – stories? Left from Satul Verde, spotted in Germany on the shore of the River. Danube.
