The Great Fire of London in 1666

The Great Fire devastated the medieval city of London from Sunday September 2nd until Tuesday, September 4, 1666. The fire destroyed the city within the old Roman walls, finished with 13,200 houses, 87 parish churches, 44 halls the Livery Company, the Royal Exchange, the Customs House, the Cathedral of Saint Paul, the City of London, as well as some of the bridges crossing the River Thames and other buildings in the city.

Above all material damage, this large fire caused a high death toll, though not recorded in the records as such as the poor and the middle class was not registered, and left more than 80,000 people in the street.
